Apple? Does anyone compile their own laptop kernel on apple? Common enough on linux because you can make your use as complicated as suits you in all the ways you can't on windows and apple. It's the only approach _possible_ with microsoft & apple.ĭoing fun stuff like re-writing the default kernel scheduler and putting a bug in there on linux is really just not a point against linux in any way when you can (a) choose not to do that and (b) can't choose that at all with windows. Something like this (fedora, debian are fine, I've heard arch is fine, no doubt others also) is the /only/ fair approach in comparison it to an apple or windows laptop. >Perhaps I too should transition to something like ubuntu, and just not worry about any of it :D And the package manager would be apt, brew, nix or flatpak depending on application. Lets be honest though, if I wasn't running NixOS I would probably run Ubuntu with whatever display and audio server they decided for me. My distro of choice wouldn't work as well (at all) without all "standards" (both real and implementation) that systemd and freedesktop puts forward.īack on topic, the Linux desktop is honestly quite great if you constrain yourself a bit (Run a stable distro with boring tech, no Nvidia) or live on the bleeding edge where things also work well but might require more maintenance. I don't particularly like either, so I like systemd.Ī good thing people often forget with Wayland, PipeWire and systemd is that they are making our ecosystem a bit less fragmented, which I see as a great win, especially since I'm a NixOS user, my system relies heavily on systemd being declarative. Systemd hate is either because you love the drama or you like bash scripts. Gnome or KDE is a preference, it doesn't matter much and they're cooperating on many Wayland extensions. The move to PipeWire made literally everything better for me (just works TM). I'm about as bleeding-edge as can be (always latest stable kernel with xanmod patches) from NixOS, using Wayland and PipeWire. I don't mean to shit on your argument, but most things are either just preferences or progress that isn't done yet. We need the old generation to die before systemd is accepted by everyone. Systemd vs $INITSYSTEM is also temporary, though on a longer timescale. Gnome vs KDE isn't really a thing, deb vs rpm isn't a thing, X vs Wayland is only a temporary thing, Pulse vs PipeWire isn't a thing, PipeWire implements pulse apis. I'd bet fedora, rhel/centos, debian, arch would all be just terrific if you prefer one of those (and why not?) I'd say just about /any/ distro will place nicely with the kernel-hackers laptop of choice. Buy apple if you really want/need to run apple software. Thinkpads, T-Series, X1 carbon are the best laptops on the market by a good margin and have been there in that spot consistently for a long time. When it's a couple of years old the hardware support is usually perfect on first install - but I guess I don't use garbage like fingerprint readers so ymmv on that kind of silliness. But it's also a very reasonable & justifiable decision to buy a new thinkpad imho. In all it's just a beautiful thing I'm very, very happy with. Gnome desktop is a thing I now find really polished and lovely to use. Meh, 8G & 250G would have been enough fwiw. I did shove in more ram and a bigger ssd. (power settings set to Power Saver in the very obvious gui menu above shutdown). T480s 3.5yrs old, out of warranty, ex-corporate cost me USD$430 running ubu 22.04 on a 4 core 8th gen core i5 & intel gfx is getting me 10 hours of battery life without having replaced the battery. They are about the easiest things to support, and they are fairly low priced. I think I had to provide tech support (unplug, wait, replug) once.įor low-tech family, I now recommend Chrome devices. Oh, the wifi at my grandfather's house is still the original Airport I setup 11 years ago. 8 years with a laptop is pretty great, especially considering it still does everything it's supposed to. I did an Apple service center battery replacement, and otherwise it performs as new. Likewise, my girlfriend daily drives my 2014 MBP which I used and abused around the world for years. (Of course it was no longer supported for OS upgrades, so that was the final reason to replace it). It was still functional when I replaced it with a Chrome desktop machine last year. But even Linux, using it as my own development environment, I would periodically have stupid stuff just mysteriously break and than require a lot of fiddling to get fixed.Īs for Apple reliability, I set my grandfather up with an iMac 11 years ago. I did that for years, and I learned that it truly sucks to have to fk around frequently with stupid stuff (usually Windows stuff). I'm too old and not of the right disposition to provide much tech support for people anymore. All the sounds are espacially designed for slow motion scenes and can be downloaded in WAV and MP3 formats. It seems that the flame spread quite widely.A set of slow motion gun sound effects with gun shot, bullet whoosh and gun mechanics. Bullets were not fired due to obstacles, but gas may have leaked from the gap due to the impact of the explosion.Ī flame blows out and the parts in the central part break into pieces. If you look closely, you can also see something like gas blowing out from the tip. Let's take a look at the footage of the explosion.Įven at 1000fps, you can clearly see the flames blowing out at the time of the explosion. Some of the smaller rifles were falling here and there. Immediately after the explosion, you can see that the parts are hitting the ground with tremendous momentum. When the trigger was pulled, it exploded and the parts were blown away without a trace. Next up is a Remington bolt-action rifle chambered in the. The explosion travels to the bottom and blows out the magazine. When playing at 1000fps (1000 frames per second), you can see how the barrel blows off with the explosion.įirst of all, an explosion occurred near the base of the barrel. Let's take a look at the video we took together. The barrel is completely torn, and about the front half is miserably rolling.Īccording to Scott, it can be inferred that the bullet exploded just around here. Some of the shattered guns flew several meters away. The gun exploded as the trigger was pulled, and the parts shattered into pieces. Set the gun and hook the rope to the trigger. Of course, it takes a considerable distance from the exploding gun and pulls the trigger remotely. In fact, there have been cases where bullets with defects such as insufficient gunpowder are jammed in the barrel, and the next bullet is fired without noticing it and explodes.įor this shoot, I use a Phantom TMX 7510 high-speed camera. It is said that it explodes by stuffing more than the specified amount of gunpowder into the bullet.Īlso, this time, in order to make sure it explodes, we put obstacles in the barrel to prevent the bullet from being fired. The first thing to explode is the ' AR-15 ', a small-caliber automatic rifle that is also deployed in the US military. Scott seems to have conducted experiments to explode various firearms since the accident. Scott, I dared to increase the amount of gunpowder packed in the bullet, explode the rifle, and shoot the situation with slow motion video. So this time, under the supervision of Mr. Scott, who is used to handling firearms, was seriously injured in April 2021 when the Rn-50, an objective rifle from rifle maker Serbu, erupted. If a cavity fire occurs while holding a handgun or rifle, serious injury is inevitable, and cavity fire is one of the most feared accidents for those who handle firearms. Exploding without firing normally is called a cavity fire. The phenomenon in which a bullet explodes unintentionally when shooting a gun or rifle is commonly called an accidental discharge, but to be precise, an accidental discharge is 'a phenomenon in which a bullet is fired unintentionally'. This time, in collaboration with Scott, a firearms YouTuber who runs Kentucky Ballistics, we will shoot `` how the rifle explodes ''. Two people from The Slow Mo Guys are shown on the screen. Gun Exploding at 187,000fps Ft Slow Mo Guys-YouTube The Slow Mo Guys, a YouTube channel that shoots various phenomena in slow motion, collaborated with Kentucky Ballistics, a firearms YouTube channel, to release `` A video of a rifle exploding in slow motion ''. 17:00:00 Shooting with super slow motion of 187,000 fps showing how the rifle explodes due to the wrong amount of ammunition gives a surprising result If you're giving a book, for example, you can inscribe it with a sweet message inside so the baby can read it when they get older. If the gift you choose doesn't come customized, you may be able to do it yourself. Personalized gifts are not only thoughtful in the moment, but the baby's family will likely treasure them for years to come. When in doubt about a gift, see if it can be personalized with a name, baptism date, or other sentiments. No matter what route you decide to take, family members will just be happy you thought of their little one on their big day. Consider opting for a gift that either the parents and caregivers or the baby will be able to use. For example, if the baby’s family is looking for the perfect accessory for the baby's dress, check out baptism jewelry.Īlso, consider art that can be used as decor in the baby’s nursery, like the Minted Baby Animal Sheep print, or a toy the baby can use now or as they get older. While any gift will be appreciated, a gift that is also useful will go a long way. If the family you’re shopping for, whether it be your own or a friend’s, enjoys more keepsake-like gifts, choose the Spang Gang Baptism Gift Ornament, as it will last the baby a lifetime. When it comes to finding a thoughtful gift, think about the family’s lifestyle to get an idea of where to start. Finding a special, personalized gift shows just how much you care for this special baby. What to Look for in Baby Baptism Gifts Thoughtfulnessīaptisms mark an extremely special day for not only the baby, but also their parents, caregivers, and other family members and friends. If it's a two-handed sword, the attachment points would be on the hilt where the character should hold it. With a crossbow, the attachment points might be at the trigger and somewhere down the "barrel." Then you position the weapon, usually relative to the character's hips or shoulders, and then use IK to "glue" the hands onto the attachment points. With IK, you usually add some attachment points to the weapons themselves. If you're using Unity (Free), you can buy Final IK instead. Note that you need Unity Pro to use the built-in IK system. A lot of artists have already created equipment and skins for it. In your case, however, you might just want to activate and deactivate the meshes' GameObjects as characters equip items.Īlso, look into the Unity Multipurpose Avatar (UMA), which is a customizable model system. Masterprompt wrote an overview on stitching together meshes. To animate the lower and upper bodies separately, you'll need to use layers and avatar masks. Scroll down about 75% of the way to "Animation in Games" to read about how WoW uses sockets (attachment points). Unfortunately I'm not aware of a single resource that covers everything you're asking about. And below this you use DNS, TCP, Ethernet, etc., below that is your local browser software, OS, hardware drivers, etc. It's like Jean-Baptiste Queru's article " You just went to the Google home page." When you go to Google, you use HTTP, HTML, CSS, and more. What you're asking is a tall order, but in the end it's not too hard. And then we are going to communicate with the application that we made on the DragonBoard. We're going to pull up a Linphone app on an iPhone, actually. So Linphone being a SIP based application. We wanted to show you how our application can actually communicate with other SIP based VoIP application. All right, now we wanna show you a demo, right? > Yeah, we're gonna go ahead and- > Yeah, we talked about Linphone earlier in this course. So that being said, we already actually pushed our application onto our DragonBoard. You'll be fine, we've done it plenty of times, so you should be familiar with it by now. > Yeah, so if you need a refresher on this, go back to course two where we set up the whole development environment > And maybe check out some of the videos again, get familiar with ADB again. Your device should appear on the window and go ahead and deploy it. So power it on, make sure you're in developer mode. And then you wanna make sure your device is plugged in. On most systems you can also do Ctrl+R, which is the default key binding to run the app. And in Android Studio you have a run button at the top or you can go straight, at the top there's a little play button, or you can go to the drop down menu and click Run. So, after you've pulled the code from the repository, you wanna go ahead and load it up in Android Studio. > So just in case you need a reminder, because remember we've done this before multiple times in the previous courses, previous lessons, previous modules, etc., everything. Randy put something good together for you. First, of course, we're gonna deploy it to the board or at least go over a slide that kind of outlines what we did to deploy it to the board. So it's time to demo the application we made. Implement and demonstrate VoIP calls using the DragonBoard 410c. Next, you will learn how voice codecs such as Adaptive Multi Rate (AMR) are used in 3G networks and use them for voice traffic in your app. You will start by using the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) for session management. In this course, you will learn how VoIP systems like Skype work and implement your own app for voice calls and text messages. Have you wondered how “Things” talk to each other and the cloud? Do you understand the alternatives for conveying latency-sensitive real time data versus reliable signaling data? Building on the skills from the Sensing and Actuation course, we will explore protocols to exchange information between processors. Casement windows do not open or close, operating predominately as a large-and secure-window ideal for emphasize beautiful views of the outside and to maximize natural light. The pattern will also produce smaller squares in the corner-a delicate touch.Ĭasement windows go well with the Prairie window grid style. The grills run along the edge of the glass, and this leaves more of the window unobstructed. The Prairie grid style sports a larger square or rectangle in its center, with its sides close to the edge of the windowpane. It’s a stark contrast to the order and symmetry of a Colonial window grid. Prairie Window Gridįor something completely different, try the Prairie window grid style. Specifically, these grids are referred to as “six-over-six” or “nine-over-nine” grid patterns. The sash adds to this overall balance, creating a visual line in the middle of the home’s double-hung window, and with a Colonial style window grid over top, the window will have about six to nine square or rectangles. The sash of a double-hung window is unavoidable as it provides the window’s opening and closing function, but for a Colonial home, it’s utterly complimentary. Boxy houses greatly benefit from the symmetry of a Colonial style, upping their curb appeal with this tribute to traditional American architecture.Ī Colonial window grid focuses on this symmetry, and if you have a Colonial style house, then there’s no doubt you should double up and use this window grid as a finishing touch. Typical Colonial style calls for symmetry, a trait that’s appealing to the human eye and works well on houses built in the same fashion. There’s nothing that says “traditional” more so than a Colonial style. Here, we’ll delve into the different styles that can help you determine if you want grids for your windows and if so, which will best compliment the overall look of your home. Yes, there are more than one style of window grid other than the simple cross you’re probably imagining in your head. Window grids harken a traditional appeal and when you’re window shopping (literally), they present themselves as a design choice for your home. Nowadays, the window grids have surrendered their once crucial purpose to mere aesthetics-but that’s not a bad thing. Back in the day, these grids that secured the glass panels allowed manufacturers to safely ship windowpanes worldwide without fear that they’d break in transit. Before modern manufacturing, these window grids held together windows that were multi-paned. Window grids, sometimes referred to as grilles or muntins, once served an essential purpose to the construction of the window. But have you ever wondered if those grids in the window actually do anything? When you think of a window, you can picture it-a square with a cross-right? It seems like it’s the go-to visual of a standard window, one that even little kids incorporate in their drawings of a typical house. |
